Lewis Elgin Wilson 1923- 2014.

My dear old Gramp died on Friday, 25th July. He passed away peacefully, in his own bed, with his two children, my mum and her brother, by his side. He was almost 91 years old, and had lived through the Great Depression in his home country of the United States before joining the army and fighting in the Pacific during the 2nd world war. He moved to Australia when the war was over to marry the Aussie girl he had met on R&R in Brisbane, my grandma, Madeline.

When Grandma died, Gramp's heart was broken and he was never the same again. He lived out his final years in an assisted living residence near Mum and Dad and gradually declined. I saw him a few weeks ago, and the kids saw him just a couple of weeks ago while they were staying at my parents, so I'm glad that they were able to say goodbye.

I like to think that Gramp and Grandma are together again now.

Awww I'm sorry Em. What a wonderful love story, though.
