Brett and I spent 4 gorgeous days in the Blue Mountains while the kids stayed at my parents. We dropped them off on Monday afternoon and picked them up on Thursday. The place we stayed at is an old guest house called The Metropole, which was very 1930's in its décor and feel. Our room was up on the 2nd floor and was pretty tiny, but cute. There were warm fires in the lounge areas, a library and a games room where we had several games of pool in the evenings. It was a very relaxing few days. We did lots of lovely walks in the crisp winter sunshine and ate lots of yummy food. We also were able to wander unhindered through antique shops and book stores. It was the perfect length of time to be away as well. Now that the kids are older I find that I don't really miss them or worry about them when I'm away from them for a short length of time. It's very liberating!
We came back home on my birthday, which was a relatively low key affair, which was fine with me. I got some lovely presents and cards and felt very special when the girls at work surprised me with a cake on Friday afternoon. Then we had friends over on Friday evening for pizza and pavlova, as Jacqueline's birthday is the day before mine. All in all a very nice beginning to my 40's!
