Ruby has dyslexia.
My poor girl. Something that I find so relaxing, enjoyable and easy will always be a struggle and difficult for her.
We have had her assessed by a psychologist and I went in to get the results today. It was exactly as my gut feeling had been telling me for the past 2 years. Cognitively speaking she is very, very bright- her IQ tested in the high range. But there is a major discrepancy between that and her reading, spelling and writing ability. She meets all the criteria for a diagnosis of dyslexia, so she has a genuine learning disability.
I am now in the process of finding information about specialised tutors, help at school etc etc. The psychologist assured me that with appropriate help and support, Ruby will be fine. I know she will. It just breaks my heart to think of her struggling along for all this time. I'm just so glad that I pushed for answers when I knew there was something not quite right.

So sorry about your broken heart, but I'm glad you were able to get it figured out for Ruby's sake. Thinking of you.
