I found out today we've reached the medicare safety net, once again. Woohoo. A good thing too, seeing as we still have more appointments for Simon and Ruby to come.
Ruby saw Dr McKay on Monday. Her hearing is perfect. Hmm. But her tonsils are on the large side and he wants her to have a sleep study done at Figtree Hospital to see if her disturbed sleep is due to sleep apnoea. I dunno. I definately do not want her to have her tonsils taken out for no reason, but if the study shows something, then I guess that's what we do. Because her sleep is ridiculous, I am exhausted, she is exhausted and her behaviour is the pits. In regards to her hearing, Dr McKay said we should keep an eye on her progress because what I was describing, (her constantly saying "What?" to everything, asking for tv to be turned up, mispronouncing words) sounded like a genuine hearing problem, and may be to do with a kind of auditory dyslexia. However no one tests for that kind of thing until the child is at least 7, which is fine by me. I think she will grow out of it, but if she doesn't it's good to know there are other paths to take.
Oh, I got my first mention in a birth notice last weekend! I was so proud! LOL. It was for the baby I helped deliver the night after Grandma died, so it was a very emotional time for me. The baby was huge! Eleven pounds. So seeing "Special thanks to Ceri and Emma" in the birth notice in the paper made me feel really elated. I also got my first semester results yesterday, and I got all distinctions, which was a great relief. I have already decided that i'm not going to break my neck to blitz things academically, I want to do well, but I have no drive or desire to be top of the class. It's more important to me to do well in practice, learn as much as I can, but also give enough time to my family. So, getting all Distinctions was lovely, but I don't expect I will get them all the way through.
