Good bye, Grandma

We had Grandma's funeral yesterday. It was a very moving, emotional, sad and happy day. To sit there in front of the coffin that held my tiny grandma was like a bad dream. I still cannot believe she is gone. The eulogy was given my my uncle Tim, my mum, my cousin James and Josh and Zoe and myself. Afterwards lots of people came to us and said how much they had enjoyed hearing us all talk about Grandma, and how they got a really good idea of who she was and what she meant to us. I'm glad about that. The thing that struck me is that what people remember most about someone is their kindness- it doesn't matter who you are, how much money you make, what kind of car you drive. In the end, only kindness matters.

After the funeral we all went back to mum and dad's new house, which I had seen on Minday when I came up to Sydney and spent the night with mum and dad. Gramp decided that he wanted to go back to his place to have some time on his own for a while, but he seemed much livlier after talking to all of his and Grandma's old friends and family at the funeral, so that's good. Obviously he must be completely devastated, but it must be some comfort to hear all the happy memories that people have of Grandma and to know how loved she was. It was a good afternoon with all the family- Zoe was up from Melbourne, Josh and Sarah, Tim, Jenny and the 4 kids and us 5. I feel so sorry for people who don't have families, friends are great, but to have us all together, with our shared history, to be parts of the whole... it is a comfort.
