Grandma

My grandma died last night, after complications from heart surgery. She was almost 88 years old. I have been feeling very sad and disbelieving since I heard. I am also very worried for my grandfather, who is ill himself. But i want to write some of the lovely memories I have of Grandma. She lived a long and full life, she travelled widely, had a lot of friends and was out and about until the end. She lived to see her great grandchildren and she always kept her sense of humour. Some of my best memories of childhood are of staying the night at Grandma's house, having homemade hamburgers for dinner and then pancakes with lots of maple syrup for breakfast the next day. We would always run into Gramp and Grandma's bed in the morning before we got up for the day. Grandma sang funny old songs like, "Swim, Sam, swim" and read us wildly politically incorrect stories like Little Black Sambo. I remember helping her make cakes and licking the beaters from the mixer, looking at all her little precious ornaments in the cupboards in the lounge room and listening to her tell us what it was like back in the 'olden days'.
I will miss her so much!
