I took the kids for a bike ride this morning as it was a lovely sunny day. The weather has warmed up a bit, thank goodness. While I did that Brett was at home working out some plans for the garden, he wants to build a new raised garden bed in the south west corner that isn't used by anyone. I think it will look nice, we want to put a cherry-blossom or maybe even a real plum tree there, with some flowers and low shrubs around.
We've also been getting quotes for having the kitchen (finally) renovated. We have done so much of this house ourselves and now I am waaaaaay over it. I know it will cost more to get it done professionally, but I spend most of my time in the kitchen, so I'd like to it to be the way i want it. We should start getting the estimates back in a couple of days, so then we can work out the finer details. I'd like to think that by Christmas I'll have a lovely new kitchen, laundry and dining room!
Monday night I got called into the hospital at about 10.30pm. I had just gone to bed, but wasn't asleep yet. I was kind of expecting the call anyway, and I was glad to get it. This woman that I am following-through was due to be induced on Tuesday and she really didn't want to be, so it was great that she went into labour spontaneously. She had a baby girl at 1am, Tuesday morning, so a pretty quick labour. It was satisfying for me too, I felt like I was a real help to her, and afterwards she thanked me for my advice and support, which was very kind of her. The baby was gorgeous, with lots and lots of curly golden hair, which was so long that she actually had a fringe! funny. I did all the baby stuff afterwards, like the weighing, measuring, temperature and heart rate, and i also bathed and dressed her. Then we took her and the baby around to the ward and settled her in. I got home at about 4.30am, had a shower, something to eat and watched a bit of tv. I went to bed just after 5am and slept on and off until midday. Brett kept the kids quiet during this time, so I felt pretty well rested. Now just one more follow through is due this week, then no more until August.
