Yikes, I didn't notice that a whole month has gone by, and suddenly it's spring! Yay! The weather has been warming gradually over the past few weeks, the tiny green leaves are out on the willows and it is staying light until 5.30pm. The boys are half way through the school term, and the other day I got the letter confirming Ruby's enrollment to start kindergarten next year.
Last weekend I went again to the Open Day at UTS for the Bachelor of Midwifery. It seemed like just yesterday that I was there, making the decision that it wasn't yet time for me to go back to uni, and that I would wait a year. And now tha year is up! I will be applying on the next week or so, have to get some paperwork together first. Then I guess it's fingers crossed until the offers come out at the end of the year.
Declan has his appointment with the child psychiatrist on Friday. (Why is there always a medical appointment??) This is at the recommendation of the psychologist he was seeing to help him deal with the dreadful temper tantrums he has, and the fact that he has been quite socially isolated at school. She is hovering between a diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome and ADD, but he fits neither criteria neatly enough, so the psychiatrist visit is to try and clarify. I won't be surprised if it's a diagnosis of "He's just that kinda kid.", but I feel I have to explore every alternative to make sure he is not at a disadvantage. Declan is a genuinely clever child, but because he is so easily distracted and he 'zones out', it will be incredibly easy for him to end up labelled as a naughty, lazy kid, which would be a tragedy. I feel that if I can begin each school year by talking to his teachers, explaining that he has a professional diagnosis (if there is one) and I am not just some irritating parent who thinks their child is 'gifted', then they will at least know what to expect from him.
