Oh my god! I am sooooo glad that this weekend is now finished. What started out as something lovely turned into a frigging nightmare. Brett and I went out for dinner BY OURSELVES on Friday night while his mum and dad babysat. We went to Trang's Vietnamese Restaurant and it was the most delicious food you can imagine. We gorged ourselves on rice paper rolls, Vietnamese Pancakes stuffed with chicken, dim sims, noodles.... YUM. After that we went to the new gelato palour that has just opened and shared a chocolate fudge sundae. It was the perfect evening. And then we came home.
Ruby was vomiting all over my mother in law as we walked through the door. Her bed sheets were also spewed on. There went all our romantic plans as I took Ruby into our bed and Brett had to go and sleep with Declan. Ruby was restless and feverish all night. She wasn't sick again but she didn't sleep. The next day she was pale and lethargic and she napped on and off most of the day. By evening she seemed much better, she had eaten some dry toast and kept it down, so for dinner I made her a soft-poached egg. She went to sleep like a log at 6.30pm.
Until 9pm when everything came back up again. So another restless night in my bed, culminating in vomiting up water at 6.30am. By now she looked really sick, so I took her up to the hospital at 7am. They saw her pretty quickly and started her on electrolyte fluid to see if she could keep it down. The doctor told me that she was one vomit away from being admitted and put on IV fluid. Luckily she kept it all down and they let us come home at 10am. Another day with a scraming, clingy child who refused to let me out of her sight. After a long sleep in the afternoon Ruby seemed much better and she ate some plain bread. By bath time she was a different child! Happy again, playing on her own without following me like a puppy. A-ha! I thought, we can get back to normal. I bathed the kids and washed their hair. That's when I found that Simon's head was absolutely crawling with headlice. *shudder*.
So then I had to drive to the chemist that stays open late and get all the headlice stuff. And wash everyone's hair again. And strip all the beds and change the sheets. Oh, and did I mention that no one had had dinner yet? Such a relaxing evening!
Anyway, it ended well(ish). I got all the kids to bed with de-loused hair and clean sheets by about 8.15pm and Brett and I watched CSI and ate pizza. Today I have done loads of washing and I still have at least 2 to go. And Ruby is refusing to take a nap!! Some days I really should just stay in bed and let the nanny take care of the children and the housekeeper and cook do everything else. Oh, wait, that's someone else's life...
