Well, that was a nice way to end Ruby's family birthday BBQ. After a leisurely dinner of sausages and salad, our 9 year old nephew Heath suddenly appeared at the top of the garden stairs, clutching a hideously misshapen arm that he had snapped by climbing off the trampoline. Not jumping on the trampoline, or falling off it (it has a net around it), but from tripping as he stepped down. Needless to say we all sprung into action. I ran upstairs and called the ambulance, we got Heath up to the street, where he lay on the grass verge and I knelt next to him, stroking his hair and telling him "Don't look at your arm, sweetheart, just think about something else...." while his mum (Brett's sister) talked to the emergency services operator. He was so brave! It was the most horrible break I have ever seen, bent at right angles to the elbow in the middle of the forearm.
This morning he was taken to theatre, and the arm was set, thankfully without needing pins or whatever, and we are hoping he will be home this evening or tomorrow morning.
Merry Christmas!
