The Wedding of the Century!

Aren't they gorgeous!? We went to our good friend's (Ben and Rena) wedding last weekend in Sydney. I had to borrow the boy's shirts from a friend, and at first they were quite aghast at the idea of wearing a shirt with buttons. However I convinced them and in the end they felt pretty pleased with themselves. I will admit to a little tear in my eye to see them look so grown up.

The wedding was on Saturday, and on the Wednesday before that my parents came to our house and took all 3 kids back to their place for 2 nights. Yay!! It was the first time Ruby had been away, but she was just as excited as everyone else. Mum and Dad took them to the zoo and to the movies and the playground and the library..... they had a ball. Brett and I drove up on Friday night and stayed over, and then went straight to the wedding, which was a morning ceremony. Having those 3 days on our own was like a blast from the past. We have been away a couple of times child free, but never actually just hung around at home without the kids. We saw a movie, ate out, went clothes shopping, slept in, drank tea without interruption. But for me, the best part was just being responsible for myself for 3 days. No little teeth to brush or bottoms to wipe. I made my breakfast, and mine alone. I didn't make lunch. I watched the news without censoring the killing/war/paedophile stories. (ie, the whole thing). As I said to Brett, going away is nice, but you kinda feel like you have to be doing things all the time. Being at home was sooooo relaxing. And it was lovely to see the kids on Friday night. 3 days was the right length of time to be away.
One of the things we got done while the kids were gone was to get a load of garden soil delivered for the new garden beds. Which Josie promptly began eating. She is now very unwell with food poisoning from the fertiliser in the soil. She has not eaten a thing since Friday night (it is now Monday) and I am having to squirt rehydration fluid down her throat via a syringe every half hour. Poor Jose is extremely subdued and quiet, it is really sad. She has that stoic look in her eyes that says "Never mind about me... I'll be all right." I am hoping that she perks up soon, or it will be back to the vet's.
