I'm surrounded by boys. Jack and Nathan are sleeping over and 4 boys in the house feels very.... boyish. I have just chivvied the big kids to bed after their 'movie night' of the Ben 10 dvd (Ruby fell asleep on my lap a while ago) and now they are all giggling about fart jokes. Hilarious!!
Winter is creeping onto the scene. It has turned rainy and cool and the leaves on the liquid amber next door have begun to change. Ruby has new winter Dora the Explorer jimjams and she is so snuggly in them, like a fuzzy little bear when she wriggles down between us in bed in the morning. Last night, by some miracle caused by a once-in-million-years alignment of every planet in the known universe, she actually slept in her own cot all night long. I can count the number of times that has happened on one finger. When she woke up she didn't call out for me, instead I could hear her playing with her dollies, making up some complicated game about parties on Thursday.
Next Wednesday the two boys are going to stay with my mum and dad foe 3 days. A big adventure! Mum will take them up to Sydney on the train and they are planning to go to the movies, the museum and stuff like that. They are really excited. Declan told me that he wouldn't miss me during the day and that he would try to remember me once he was asleep. That's a comfort. Simon got his new reading glasses last week. I finally convinced him that it would be to his benefit to be, like, actually able to see. That plus the bribe of a special glasses case that reverses on itself. He looks very handsome in them, they have blue frames to match his eyes.
