ok so it only feels like 5 years have passed. But hey, it's Easter!!! When did that sneak up on me?
We are having a lazy, cosy Easter long weekend. It is rainy and chilly and perfect weather for reading and drinking hot chocolate. And now that the kids are mostly pretty good at entertaining themselves it is a whole lot more relaxing. Yesterday while I was reading upstairs in our new lounge area (oh my god, how posh is that!? We have actual carpet now, and we moved the lounges to the other end of the room, so it's kinda like a real house where grown up people live!) Simon came over and sat next to me with his chapter book 'Zac Power' and we read together in silence while the rain poured down outside. Tomorrow Bianca and the boys are coming over for brunch.
In 3 weeks it will be the end of Term 1. Declan is such a school kid now. He comes straggling out of the classroom every afternoon all sweaty and filthy, dragging his bag across the ground. It's tough being in kindy. Actually, his teacher took me aside last week to tell me that she has accelerated him onto Year 1 work in literacy and reading. As he is in a composite class, kindy and year 1 together, it's not a big deal as far as Declan is concerned- he doesn't feel like he's doing anything different. I've always known that he is a clever, clever kid. He was counting to 10 (and reading the numbers) before he even turned 2. So it's good that he won't be bored at school and can be extended like this when he needs to be. Simon is also doing well at school. His teacher this year is lovely and I get on with her really well. I think perhaps she drugs the kids or something when they go into the classroom because she is always telling me how wonderfully well behaved Simon is, lmao!!!! Oh well, i'm glad he saves up all his woes for me and is polite when he should be. The other afternoon he got angry with me for something and told me I was so mean because i 'keep saying adjectives that don't even mean anything!' ok....... He is very, very much into spies and secret agents at the moment and has decided that when he grows up he is going to be an 'actual spy, not the kind that works behind a desk.'
Ruby is behind me at the moment singing "Wumbo wumbo wumbo' which means limbo limbo limbo. She is such a funny kid. She does dancing every thursday afternoon now, it is a preschool class and very easy going. It's 10 or so little girls who run around being fairies or butterflies etc. Ruby loves it and she quite often breaks into dance moves at home.
The photo is from Dexie's 6th birthday party at Zoom. He got a real telescope that you can see the craters of the moon with. Very cool.
