winter sun and other woes

Warm days in winter (or late autumn, really) always unsettle me. You get used to the chilly mornings and the darkening cold of the evening and then suddenly mother nature has one last gasp at summer and gives you a couple of days of warm, balmy breezes and bright sunshine. I am not a cold weather person, but the reminder of summer, right before winter really sets in is like a cruel joke. I do like the early mornings though, at this time of year. When I walk to the hospital on day shift ( I have to park a fair distance away), the sun is just rising and the mountains and escarpment are still shadowy and misty green. Someone nearby owns a rooster which is greeting the dawn. The past few mornings the sky has been a gorgeous flame orange.

One thing about winter- it makes getting up to Ruby at night very unpleasant. And yes, I'm still getting up to her. Sometimes 3 times a night for various matters- a bad dream, a toilet trip, a drink of water... The other night the 'emergency' was that she noticed spots on her pillow case. That's because I had changed her sheets. Then other nights she'll sleep right through. If anyone had told me that I would still be dealing with this when she was 6 I would have thought them crazy. And believe me, I have done everything to get her to sleep- reward charts, having a mattress in our room, melatonin etcc etc etc. Now I have resigned myself to it and figure that she will eventually grow up, and then I may well miss it. (though i sincerely doubt that).

What a lovely post. Your mornings sound beautiful, regardless of how tired you must be. I hear you. I hear you. Isla is still going in and out of sound-sleeper world. She had a good few months when we were still in France, but now we're all mucked up again and I find myself taking numerous middle-of- the- night trips to her bedside, arghh! So much goes on in those little heads an bodies.
