Last Monday was Brett's 50th birthday. We had celebrated with his family the day before, and on his actual birthday the kids and I gave him his presents in the afternoon. From me was the surprise that I have been trying to keep secret for a few months- a trip to Melbourne with visits to the museum to see the Titanic exhibition and the ABBA exhibition. Brett was very excited when he opened his card which i had stuck the itinerary inside of. Even though I also get to enjoy the benefits of the 'gift' I have told him that it's his getaway and it's up to him what things he'd like to see and do. The two things I've already booked are exhibits that he'd already expressed interest in.
I've finished this lot of prac at the hospital, and i have really enjoyed it. I have delivered a couple of babies, helped in the resusitation of another and generally feel as though I'm finding my feet. I've also been working on the mountain of assignments we have due, and I'm pretty much on top of it. Not that they will be particularly good assignments, I'm not aiming to come top of the class. I truly cannot believe that I'm almost at the end of my first year of uni.
Simon's operation for his polyp is booked for the 30th November. We saw Dr Mackay last week, and he went through what Dr Boardman in Sydney had written to him, which was pretty much what had been explained to us at the appointment. I told Stuart that I'm happy for him to do the surgery again, it will be in through the nostril again, however if it comes back after this attempt then Dr Boardman wants to bring Simon up to Westmead Kids Hospital in sydney and go in under his top lip, a procedure that has something like a 30- 40% chance on nerve damage! Bloody hell! I was like, 'over my dead body!'
Ruby's behaviour continues to drain and exhaust me. We have an appointment with the paediatrician this week, not that it will reveal anything, but at least when she ends up in prison I can say "I tried!"
