Ruby and I had a nice day out last week. As I have said before, I'd like to be able to do a few special things with her before she starts school, but it's been difficult because of her "spirited" behaviour. Just recently, Wollongong council has started a free bus service, which runs in a loop around Wollongong and stops at main points along the way, such as the shopping mall, the hospital, the library, the university etc. So last Tuesday I decided that Ruby and I would have a morning out and go for a bus ride. It was a grey, rainy day, and we boarded the bus in Gwynneville, near to where we live and Ruby thought it was very cool. The bus went on it's loop and she commented on every interesting thing she saw, her warm little hand clutching mine. At the library we hopped off and spent about half an hour there, reading stories and browsing. So far so good! Next I walked her to a new Turkish eatery that is just in the next block from the library. It had just opened for the day and we were the only customers. I ordered some bread and hummous, and it was absolutely delicious- the cook made the bread from scratch as we watched and then baked it, and it was warm and chewy. Ruby scoffed nearly the whole basket and scraped up big blobs of hummous to go with it. When we finished there it had started raining quite heavily so we walked quickly back to the bus stop and waited for the bus. Then we finished the rest of the loop and ended up back at the car. A good way to spend a few hours and Ruby (and I) really enjoyed ourselves.
Today was the last day of term before Easter, and not a moment too soon. This term has been long (11 weeks) and the kids are tired. We plan to take them the the easter show next week, and Declan also has his appointment at Westmead Hospital. The medication he is on is working a treat, I am so relieved.
