Last night we some some friends over for dinner. I've known Petra for a while through playgroup, but this was the first time she and her husband have been to our place for dinner. We got a dvd for the kids (they have 2 girls) and the grown ups ate a civilised dinner together. It was a very nice evening. Michael, Petra's husband, works at the uni, and is involved in carbon dating, which Brett finds very interesting. Because we all had kids to get to bed it was an early night, but lots of fun.
It seems though, that our group of friends consists of people who are leaving Australia! See, Petra and Michael are here for 3 years from Austria- they go back at the end of 2010. And of course Alicia and Pete go back to the states in June this year. I am trying to organise more social things though, because I know that Brett feels left out of the loop. He doesn't have a lot of his own friends (really he is just that kind of person, he makes a couple of close friends and stays close), but as I have been living in Wollongong for almost 10 years now, I have developed a great circle of friends. And of course the children are older, i am no longer attached to breatfeeding babies, so I can go out places and have some degree of a social life. But I have realised that it has to be me that organises these events, no point waiting for him to invite people. So that is what i have been doing, and it seems to be working.
