Brett's birthday was yesterday and I got him good!!! I had organised a surprise ages ago, and believe me, I am very good at keeping secrets. I had booked a room at the Ibis hotel here in town and had arranged for my friend Alicia to stay over at our place to mind the kids. On Friday afternoon Brett had to take his car to the mechanics for a service and he was going to ring me and I would then drive to pick him up. So that part of the plan just happened perfectly. I had checked into the hotel already and taken our bags, so after Alicia came over I drove up to the mechanics and met Brett. He wondered where the kids were and I said that Alicia was watching them and if he wanted to we had time to grab a quick coffee in town before we picked them up. We drove into town and I parked near the hotel, which is also near the main shopping area. We were walking past the hotel and I was thinking of how to get him in there and still keep the surprise when Brett said "I wonder if they do coffee here?" LOL!!! So I was like, "Let's have a look and see." We went in, and instead of going into the cafe in the lobby I turned towards the lifts and pressed the button. Brett was quite confused by now, and I started laughing and saying "Happy Birthday!!" We went up in the lift and I started to explain that I had booked a room for the night and he could not believe it!! I don't think he really did until we went into the room and he saw the bags and everything. Oh my god, it was soooooooo funny!
We had a great time. We sat down by the window and had some tea in our room and it was so quiet and peaceful! It was rainy and cold outside and we just watched it and sipped our tea. That night we walked down to the restaurant strip and had dinner at an Indian restaurant that we had never seen before. It was delicious food and a really nice, cosy atmosphere. The next morning we had breakfast at a cafe in town and then we went to buy Brett a new suit, as we have a wedding to go to next month. He bought a beautiful suit, it is just gorgeous. And it would want to be for the price!!! The store was having a big sale so it was 50% off, still it cost $500. But a suit is something you really can't scrimp on, if you want it to last and to look good. We got home just after midday and Alicia said the kids had been fine. I asked them if they had missed us, and they all said "No, not really." Nice to be appreciated.
