The Accidental Snake Charmer

So Josie is a pretty annoying dog at times. One of her more irritating traits is to bark and growl at things that don't require barking and growling, like a leaf, or a plastic bag, or a dog barking 2 streets away and then not even slightly barking at actual threats, like potential axe murderers or intruders. Last night we put her outside in the garden while we went upstairs to get the kids ready for bed. Then she started barking and barking and groooooooowwwwwwling, in a voice I've never heard before. I went and looked out of the upstairs window and saw her circling something on the grass. At first I though it was a mouse or a frog. Brett went down to get her in and then called me to get her quickly. I grabbed some of her dog biscuits to entice her because she was really angry at whatever it was, but she came running in.

And there on the lawn, sticking up straight was a red belly black snake, waving around, looking to strike! Holy crap! And it was only a little one too, maybe a foot long, so my thought was, where's it's mother....

Josie was exceptionally proud of herself all evening.
