Catastrophic

A statewide total fire ban is now in force for today, Tuesday. No matter where you live, please remember the safety of you and your family is the most important thing today. Make a Bush Fire Survival Plan available from www.rfs.nsw.gov.au. Please share with those you care about.Today is the worst day for fire danger in many years for the whole of the state. It is very hot, about 36 degrees and there are high, gusting winds. The Rural Fire Service has introduced new fire warning levels, aimed at making it easier to know what to do in a fire. The whole area where we live has been declared a Catastrophic Fire Rating, meaning that if a bush fire started it would not be able to be controlled. Last night Brett and I both received sms messages on our phones and an automated message on the home phone advising of this, as was also sent to everyone else in the danger areas. Today we have been watching the news and keeping an eye on the RFS website for updates. At present there are no fires anywhere near us, though there are almost 100 bushfires around the state. Hopefully this weather breaks and things settle down!
