I had the most awful experience the other day. On Wednesday after lunch decided to drive into town to do the groceries at the supermarket, visit the library and do a couple of little errands. So, there I was driving down the main street of Wollongong, without a care, when suddenly, with no warning, the car decided to completely lose power and just die. So there went the brakes and power steering! I was coming down a slight hill, towards a busy intersection, and thank goodness the lights were green. I slammed on the brakes and tried to steer and managed to stop in the kerb side lane by pulling on the hand brake and putting the car into park. I got out and raised the bonnet to indicate that I'd broken down, as all the cars had to divert around me. A man was waling past me and asked if I was ok, and then said that he worked in the office right there, so he went and got three other guys who came out and helped me push the damn car around the corner to a quieter place. I called the NRMA roadside assistance, who arrived pretty quickly. The car had to be towed to a mechanic.
I got it back yesterday- the problem was something to do with the ignition system, and was only a small part that had failed. But I was really shaken by the whole thing- I kept thinking all those thoughts you have after a near miss- like, what if the lights had been red? What if the kids had been with me? What if I'd been on the freeway doing 100kph? Ugh. Anyway, all's well that ends well, as they say, but holy crap, that car is a piece of junk, and if I could afford a new one i'd race out tomorrow!
