Well I knew it had to happen sometime. After a couple of good, solid vomit-free years, Ruby woke up last night with a sick tummy. I have become pretty blase about Ruby's tummy issues as they are numerous and predictable, but this one resulted in hysterical, impressive vomiting at 2am. Impressive because the amount (very small) was in total disproportion to the amount of screaming (very large). After calming her down and cleaning her up she shivered and shook and begged to be allowed to sleep downstairs on the lounge with me, like 'we used to'. This idea has recently been a frequent topic of conversation, I must have done that with her once at some time in the past, and it was apparently so memorable she has been keen to try it again. Well, wish granted! So down we went, put the interminable "Barbie- Swan Lake" dvd on and covered ourselves with mounds of quilts. Ruby was in high spirits by now, which continued for the next hour until she was sick again. "This time I was brave!" she announced.
That was, thankfully, the end of the throwing up, and the beginning of a very long day, as she and I only dozed for the next couple of hours and then, oh joy, it was day time. Today was supposed to be my study day at home, but with Ruby with me it was an exercise in distraction. She decided she wanted to make a city out of cardboard. Just something simple! And of course, although she was perfectly well she was tired and a bit grumpy, so not the best company.
So now my fingers are crossed- will we dodge the gastro bullet? Personally i have to, as it's my last week at the hospital, and the boys have to as they have the NAPLAN tests this week at school. So I'm putting it out there to the universe that we DO NOT have time for gastro, thank you very much!
