Ugh. Simon has hives. Can you believe that? He's been creeepily red and blotchy since Tuesday, and now, Thursday evening, the welts are popping up again as the antihistamine wears off. No idea what caused it, apparently it can occur after a viral infection, and he did have a sniffle last week. And, it can last for several weeks! Fab.
I am trying to muster enthusiasm to do some stuff around the house before I go back to uni the week after next. So far I've cleaned out the linen cupboard, but that's about it. I've had too many good books to read! Anyway, I figured I deserved some r and r before this year starts as I have a feeling it's going to be pretty full on. I was at the hospital all day last Saturday with one of my follow throughs who had a beautiful, natural birth with no pain relief of a 9lb boy. I felt like I learned a lot that day, and I really needed that after the run of caesarians and instrumental births that I've been to. Now only one more birth in this current list of women and I'll have 14 births done. Then I'll recruit another 6 for this year, leaving me with the final 10 for the 3rd year.

Sounds like you're having an amazing experience, minus the hives, with your new career. As I've mentioned before, I'd like to be reincarnated into a wise midwife. For now I will have to live vicariously through you.
How about we make a deal, Betsy; you live vicariously as a midwife through me and I'll live vicariously in a romantic French village through you! ;)
