I am so tired.
On Wednesday I was at the hospital from 9.30am till 9.30pm, birthing one of my follow through women. It was an intense day, ending with a shoulder dystocia and a big baby who got a bit stuck, however everything ended well and the bub was born without further drama. Then yesterday, thursday, I got a call from Ceri, my midwife from Ruby, saying that one of my other women was in labour. So once brett got home I headed back to the hospital and was there until 11pm. This birth was amazing, the woman literally does not make a sound, she seems to barely feel the contractions until she starts pushing! Anyway, it was lovely birth and very special to witness.
I was so emotional when i got home though, a combination of stress and tiredness I think. I sat on the lounge and cried and cried for about 20 minutes and then felt better. I think it was the experience of working with Ceri, of seeing myself back there 5 years ago, having ruby and trusting Ceri to the letter and developing a bond with her. You have to bond with your midwife, but it's a bond that you know is transient- you'll always remember her, but you don't expect to keep a relationship going. So to be back there and working beside her felt very strange and a bit overwhelming (not at the time, but afterwards). And the main thing that set me off was when Ceri handed me the card to put at the end of the baby's cot that had his birth details written on it, and she had written; "Midwives: Ceri, Christina and Emma."
Silly, no?
Today is Simon's 10th birthday! And just to celebrate we had his follow up ENT appointment to discover that his polyp is back with a vengence and will require more surgery. :( After that though we went into town and had a nice day together and he chose a few little things to buy with his birthday money.
