Four

Tomorrow is Ruby's 4th birthday, and (predictably) she is sick. I have her on my lap at the moment, shivering and shaking away. I spent most of the night lying next to her as she whispered restlessly to herself. With luck it will just be some 24 hour virus (her only symptom is a fever) and tomorrow the birthday girl will be in fine form.

She had her party for a few little friends on Thursday morning which was fun. One of the presents was a fairy dress that is covered in glitter, so now I am catching glimpses of silver sparkles everywhere I go.

I was very relieved when Ruby turned 3, thinking that maybe we would now have an easier time with her. Ha! The past year has simply confirmed that Ruby is not just at a difficult age, she is just a "spirited child". (ie, difficult). In some ways I have wished her babyhood away because of this, and in other ways I am wishing it back. This time next year she will be 6 weeks away from starting Big School, and she is still such a baby to me, with her baby talk and her insistance to be carried everywhere.
