I took Simon back to the ENT doctor today to get the results of his scans. As I had thought, from watching the screen during the scan, his right sinus is totally blocked. The doctor pointed out the area on the film and said that it should all be black to show air space, but it was all grey. The sinus is completely filled with the polyp. His left side is not much better, no polyp, but he has sinusitis there. From seeing it like that i'm astounded that the poor child has been able to breathe at all!
So Dr MacKay wants to operate as soon as possible, and the date has been set for 11th December. Merry Christmas! It will involve at least one night in hospital. Dr MacKay will remove the polyp and send it to pathology and also then open up the sinus on the left side to let it drain. The part about sending the polyp to pathology is something I am not even thinking about at this point. The risk of it being anything "sinister" as the doctor put it, is small, so i won't waste time considering it. Oh poor Simey! When this is over he will feel so much better without half his face filled with crap and gunk.

Ah poor Simey indeed! :(
And no...no reason to think about what the polyp might or might not be just yet.
