Gardenias

Our 2 gardenia bushes at the side of the driveway are starting to flower. They are both covered with buds and the promise of their heavenly scent. Gardenias are one of my favourite flowers. It's a pity that they last such a short time and are so easily ruined. The time of their blossoming usually coincides with the drenching summer storms and no sooner do you see the pure white flowers then the rain comes and turns them a soggy beige. A little like life with kids in a way- you have those shining, wonderful moments where you are being the best mum in the whole world!- your kids are happy and content and everything is in harmony. And then comes that moment, the one you didn't see coming, maybe an unkind remark from one to another, or the perceived snatching of a toy, or the game going on for one minute too long and Blammo! The children wilt like flowers.

I went along to watch Simon do his swimming today and I was really impressed!! He has come a long way in the past week and is really trying his best. He climbed out of the pool shaking and shivering with cold, but as happy as a clam. "Did you see me swim?!" he asked with his eyes shining. And how lucky was I to be able to say that yes, I did.
