maybe.

Simon is not what you would call a relaxed child. He's not one to just go with the flow and see where it takes him. He likes to know every detail and to have a plan of action for every possible scenario. Fair enough, really. Take the conversation we had on Friday morning as we were arriving at school. This week they started 'Alternative Sport' (or Alternaville Sport as Simon calls it.) They do it in term 4, the kids get to choose a different sport from the usual PE and they do 2 hours every Friday for 6 weeks. This year Simon chose Auskick (junior AFL) and i celebrated because a) it's free and b) it's at school, so no bus travel and I don't have to drive him. So Simon was very excited about it but also a little nervous in case he didn't get there on time or something. So the conversation ran like this;

S: Are we on time? We have to be at school by 8.55!

M: Yes, it's only 8.45.

S: Do you think I have to line up in the playground?

M: I don't know, we'll walk down and see.

S: Where do you think I will be doing Auskick? Will I have to catch a bus?

M: No, you'll be at school on the oval.

S: But maybe I'll have to catch a bus.

M: No, it's at school. You don't catch a bus.

S: But maybe I will.

M: No you won't.

S: But what if I do have to catch a bus?

M: Simon, you won't have to catch a bus. Auskick is at school. I haven't signed any note or paid any money for you to catch a bus.

S: You haven't paid??? Why didn't you pay for me to go on the bus?

And so on and so on ad infinitum. Do you see why I keep that hip flask handy?

Meanwhile Declan has started his Big School Transition!! He is such a real life big kid now! And I am such a bad, inattentive mother. I took him to the classroom on Tuesday morning with all the other new kiddies, signed him in, got him settled with his year 5 "Buddy" (actually our next door neighbour, so he had no qualms about it) and then left to go down to the hall for all the talks from the principal etc. First though I had to take Ruby up to the car to get something, and then walk down to the ahll, which took about 10 minutes. And when I got to the hall no one was there! The parents were all still milling around the kindy classroom with their kids, reluctant to leave them. And there I am swanning around without a care in the world. Oh well, eventually they all made it to the hall and sat there taking notes and asking questions like, "What if my child gets hungry at school? They eat all day at home." Uh, maybe tell them not to eat all day long? Pack a big lunch? Anyhoo.

Oh! And Dexie has lost a tooth!! He got 50c from the tooth fairy.
